It was back in 2010, maybe late October. I picked up a short story by Ted Chiang, “Story of Your Life“, one of the best I’ve read in my life. At the end, I was wondering about the choice to see a story like that in a movie. I do remember my words about that. “Nope”.

A few years ago, looking for movie trailers, I found the first trailer of “Arrival”. And my jaw dropped to the ground. Do they really do that?

Lucky me (and you!), it really happened. This will be one Hell of a movie, quite possibly the best for this year. Just think about this: a whole movie centered on a hard sci-fi concept like a two-level language and how the perception of reality may shift, thru the application of a language. Really, really, can’t wait for this one.

Denis Villeneuve at the helm, Eric Heisserer for the script (of course, it’s an adaptation for the screen of the original story), a trio of well-versed actors in the key roles (Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker) and an estimated budget of 50 million USD. What could go wrong?

Well, to be honest, a lot. The original story is very carefully plotted, with an atmosphere of its own that will be really difficult to catch in a movie. But, you know, it’s like anything else. We will have to wait and see.
